5 Things To Do During Summer in Virginia Beach

Summer is more than half over already; can you believe it?? No worries though! There’s still plenty of time to fit in these top 5 things to do during summer in Virginia Beach!

Here I’ve put together 5 things to do during summer in Virginia Beach. You can do all of these any time of the year, but i personally think they are extra enjoyable during summer.

explore First Landing state park

Take a hike, ride a bike, or dip in the Chesapeake Bay! This maritime forest community boasts back dunes, upland forests, tidal marshes, and a cypress swamp. Nestled in this ecosystem, you’ll find 9 trails, beaches along the Bay, picnic tables, and docks for launching boats and kayaks.

Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. From ospreys to bald eagles, the park is teeming with cool bird species. I like to bring a pair of binoculars to get a close-up look! If you’re planning to hike, I highly recommend bringing some bug spray because the mosquitoes can be bad in the wooded areas.

There are tons of fun, family-friendly outdoor activities at First Landing State Park.

Grab a brew (or 2) at Wasserhund brewery

Founded in 2015 by a VB-native couple, Wasserhund Brewery brings German beer culture to our our lively beach town.

They keep their taps on a good rotation, but some of their most popular beers include the Doggy Paddle IPA, the Habanero Peach DIPA, and Bitchin’ Bacon Stout. Definitely try one of their pizzas as well because you deserve it. I’d recommend the Lil’Chihuahua (where pizza meets taco!) – cooked salsa sauce, taco seasoned chicken, lettuce, roma tomatoes, red onions, & sour cream. YUMM!

Hit the beach

In Virginia Beach, we are certainly not short on beaches! Swim in the ocean or the bay. With the Oceanfront, First Landing, Chic’s Beach, and Sandbridge, there’s a plethora of options to choose from when you’re in need of feeling the sand between your toes.

Lather on some sunscreen, lay out and tan, then cool off by body-surfing the waves!

Relax in your backyard

Sometimes I really enjoy a nice night in. The backyard is kind of the hangout spot for my family and friends. We like to have cookouts, talk about our days (and our cats), and watch the birds and butterflies flutter around.

It’s essential to have a comfy outdoor space to enjoy at your home. Comfortable seating is a must to sit back and enjoy a good book, chat, nap, eat, or just take it all in. Beautiful flower beds aren’t only nice to look at, they also attract beautiful pollinators and birds, and provide a habitat for small frogs and rabbits!

has everything needed relax!

Tour A Green building

Brock Environmental Center

Right off of Shore Drive, you’ll find the Brock Environmental Center – one of the most energy efficient and environmentally smart buildings in the world. Solar panels and wind turbines help the Brock Center produce 83 percent more energy than it uses! Also, it is the first commercial building in the continental U.S. permitted to capture and treat rainfall for use as drinking water.

You can schedule a tour to learn and see all of the environmentally-friendly and sustainable aspects of the building (& maybe even try a waterless toilet)! Click HERE to make a reservation for the last tour of the season on Friday, July 26 at 10:00AM & 11:00AM.
