You shouldn’t go through all the work of aerating, seeding, and sodding without providing the proper nutrients for the newly laid grass to thrive on. But you can’t pick just any fertilizer to throw on top of your newly seeded/sodded lawn. Some fertilizer formulas are too strong for those newly sprouting seeds and adjusting sod.
That’s why we recommend Jonathan Green’s Green-Up Lawn Food for Seeding & Sodding. It’s the best fertilizer for seeding and sodding!

With Fall approaching, NOW is the best time to aerate, over-seed, and/or lay sod. The cooler temperatures accompanied by plenty of rainfall, warm grounds, and less active weeds create the best conditions for grass seeds to germinate and establish.
What is Green-Up Lawn Food for Seeding & Sodding?
This is high phosphorus formula fertilizer that helps to build a vigorous root system and gets new grass plantings off to a fast start for a thicker, greener lawn. It contains 1% iron for deep-greening and 30% slow-release nitrogen. It also contains humates that help with strong, dense root development.
Key Product Features:
– Makes new seed and sod grow quicker and thicker
– Apply anytime that seed or sod is used
– Builds strong hearty root systems
– Feeds lawns for up to 2 months
When & How to Apply:
Use when seeding, overseeding or sodding.
Apply to a dry lawn on the same day as seeding/sodding. If the lawn is under stress from lack of rainfall, disease or heat, or if air temperatures are 85° or higher, do not apply this product, as turf injury may occur. For use under new sod lawn installations. Always water in after applying.
Hands down, this is our favorite pick for the best fertilizer for seeding and sodding. Be gentle on your lawn while it’s adjusting to the new seed, sod, or aeration. You will be paid back with a lush, green yard come next Spring.
